Microblading / PhiBrows / 3D Eyebrow Embroidery Q & A
What is microblading?
Microblading, also known as PhiBrows or 3D Eyebrow Embroidery is a relatively new, increasingly popular method to fill in and reshape your natural eyebrow. This is a type of cosmetic tattooing and offers realistic results.
For this procedure, your artist creates tiny lines that resemble individual eyebrow hairs. This method does not use a permanent makeup machine, but rather is done manually, with a configuration of sterilized needles attached to a handle, and is done with exceptional precision.
This method creates very natural-appearing eyebrows, and typically you can’t tell the difference between the pigmented lines and natural hairs.
Why does microblading not last as long as other eyebrow tattooing techniques?
The pigment used is placed between the dermis and the epidermis of the skin. So overall, the application is more superficial than a normal tattoo and uses a smaller amount of pigment.
Because of this, your microblading fades over time, and needs to be refreshed to maintain the best appearance of your eyebrows.
Pigment fades at different rates for everyone, but things that contribute to fading may be:
- Sun exposure
- Oily skin
- Some medications
- Dark skin colors
To minimize fading it is important to protect your color by wearing a SPF of 30 or greater over your brows.
What does microblading entail?
Microblading is an in-office procedure done by a cosmetic permanent makeup artist. An initial consultation is advised to determine your expectations and desire for the shape and color of your eyebrows.
Treatment sessions last approximately 2 hours, depending on the design of your brows. A topical anesthetic is used to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. We also offer alternative anesthesia therapies for people who are extra sensitive. Please ask for details during your consultation.
When your treatment is complete, after care instructions and a post procedure care kit is provided for you to take home and use as directed. You may have some tenderness on or around your eyebrows, but this subsides quickly.
Typically 2 treatments are effective to achieve your desired results, individuals with combination skin may require additional treatments. About 7 weeks after your initial treatment, a perfecting session is required to fill in any areas that may be lost during your healing process to achieve your desired brow.
Your permanent makeup artist strives to give you the best possible brow design. Please remember that no one is completely symmetrical and perfect. Your permanent makeup artist will strive to design your brows to compliment your face and enhance your facial features.
What to avoid before your microblading procedure?
Aspirin, Vitamin E, Fish oil, Motrin, Aleve, Alcohol. If unsure about a medication, please ask. We want you to have the best results possible.
