The Benefits of Telehealth

As the global COVID-19 pandemic continues and social unrest increases, you may have lots of questions you’ve never had to ask before, like: Is it safe to go to my doctor’s office?

We understand your concerns, and we share them. Dr. Charles Hunt II, and our team here at Alabama Vein & Restoration MedSpa have stayed on top of the news and the latest science and have complied with the expert recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to make sure we keep all our patients and staff members safe.

One of the ways we do this is by offering you the option of a telehealth appointment to provide follow-up care as you recover from a procedure or have questions about your ongoing treatment. Here are some of the many benefits of this essential technological tool.

First, a word about telehealth

Although it sounds like something from a sci-fi movie, telehealth is really just a name for a doctor’s appointment that takes place remotely via video chat. With you sitting comfortably — and safely — at home and Dr. Hunt in his office, you carry out your visit with the help of your computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

The concept is nothing new; it began years ago as a way for doctors to connect with their rural patients who are often many miles away. Today, telehealth, sometimes called telemedicine, is being used by more than 50% of hospitals in the U.S. and is covered by most insurance companies.

Telehealth is safe

These days, you can’t take safety for granted. Whether you’re concerned about the novel coronavirus, your health is already compromised, or you’re caring for an elderly adult, you need to be extremely cautious when it comes to interacting with others and spending time in a medical facility.

But that doesn’t mean you have to go without seeing Dr. Hunt. Obviously, he can’t perform any procedures through your screen, but he can talk to you face-to-face, answer your questions, and even see your areas of concern. This is especially beneficial if you’ve recently had a procedure like sclerotherapy for spider veins, you’re undergoing bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, or you just had an aesthetic treatment

Telehealth is convenient

Clearly, telehealth appointments are just the thing if you or someone you’re caring for is immunocompromised and shouldn’t be exposed unnecessarily, but telehealth comes in handy even if you don’t absolutely need it for health reasons.

These days, our time is one of the most valuable commodities, so anything that saves us a few minutes or a few hours is welcome. Our patients save time and money by eliminating driving time and hours away from work.

Telehealth is private

Your telehealth appointment is a private, one-on-one conversation between you and one of our Physician Assistants. You choose your location when you connect for your appointment, whether that’s in your living room, in your parked car, or at the beach.

You not only control where you are, but you also control who is privy to your conversation. You can be completely isolated, or within earshot of your spouse or caretaker if you want them to hear what Dr. Hunt has to say. It’s up to you.

More and more people across the country are opting for telehealth for many of their health care appointments. At Alabama Vein & Restoration Medspa, we offer this convenient option for select follow-up visits. Call us at 205-823-0151 or reach out to us at any of our five Alabama locations in Hoover, Fultondale, Clanton, Tuscaloosa, and Oxford to find out if your next appointment can happen from the comfort of your own home.
